The Gilbert Optimist Club participates in the annual essay contest sponsored by Optimist International. Youth of Gilbert, Arizona or surrounding communities can submit an application and essay to the club for consideration in the Club's local contest. The winners go on to compete in zone, district and international contests against winners from other local clubs.
